ERIC DIER is lucky to be alive after he mistook appendicitis for a regular stomach bug.

The Tottenham star thought he had been struck down by a virus sweeping the club last December.

Instead, it was his appendix and he had to be rushed to hospital to have it removed just in time.

He said modestly: “Yeah, it was quite serious! There were a few players at the club with a stomach ache so we just presumed that it was that.

“It was no fault of the medical staff, they treated me fantastically. But I was at home and had to be rushed to hospital.

“Thankfully, I had the procedure straight away. I was very fortunate. It was just difficult afterwards, I kept on getting ill.”
